Story

The Context: Designing at Conglomerate Scale

Designing for the Reliance/Jio ecosystem is a masterclass in context switching. The sheer scale of the conglomerate means moving from fast-fashion retail to gourmet grocery, and from live OTT entertainment to luxury fine jewellery—all within the same year.

Rather than a traditional deep dive, this is an Ecosystem Showcase. It highlights my core design contributions across seven of Reliance’s flagship consumer brands, demonstrating how I approached radically different user mental models, business models, and omnichannel constraints.

This work was completed as an associate designer embedded across Reliance's product teams — contributing to design execution across 7 brands under senior design leadership.

1. Azorte: The "Scan & Go" Checkout

Domain: Premium Fast Fashion | Challenge: Bridging the physical-digital gap.

In-store billing queues are the highest point of friction in physical retail. For Azorte (Reliance's premium fast-fashion format), I contributed to the design of "Scan & Go" mobile experience, allowing shoppers to bypass the cashier entirely.

Quick Scan: Designed a barcode scanner flow that instantly retrieves product variants and pricing.

The Cart Experience: Formulated a mobile checkout flow that automatically applies complex store promotions (e.g., BLACKFRIDAY20) and seamlessly transitions the user to a digital payment gateway while they are still walking the store aisles.

2. Freshpik: Gourmet Grocery Discovery

Domain: Premium Food & Grocery | Challenge: Designing for high-intent, aesthetic-driven discovery | Product Link: App

Freshpik caters to an upscale demographic looking for fresh, exotic, and gourmet foods. The digital storefront needed to feel less like a dense supermarket and more like a curated culinary experience.

Product Discovery: Designed a visually immersive discovery layer. Instead of overwhelming dropdowns, the search architecture features elegant modal overlays with "Trending Searches" and visual "Category Suggestions," allowing users to navigate premium inventory through macro-imagery rather than dense text lists.

3. Tira: Elevating Beauty E-Commerce

Domain: Omnichannel Beauty | Challenge: Breaking into an entrenched beauty market | Product Link: Website & App

Tira was Reliance’s massive zero-to-one bet in the premium beauty space. The design needed to exude luxury while offering deeply personalised skincare and cosmetic discovery.

AR Virtual Try-On: Designed an immersive, split-screen augmented reality interface. Users can instantly test and compare cosmetic shades in real-time, bridging the physical-digital gap and driving immense purchase confidence.

High-Density Shade Matrices: Engineered aesthetic-forward variant selectors optimised for complex cosmetic catalogs. The mobile UI effortlessly handles massive shade ranges using high-resolution swatches and explicit out-of-stock states to ensure a frictionless checkout flow.

4. Swadesh: Commerce Through Storytelling

Domain: Indian Heritage & Handcrafts | Challenge: Selling the craft, not just the product | Product Link: Website & App

Swadesh is a unique initiative bringing India's master artisans to the global market. Standard e-commerce templates fail here because the origin of the product is its primary value proposition.

Craft-Led Conversion: The product page was designed to do the selling that a physical artisan market would — each listing surfaces the maker's origin story directly, so craft context drives purchase confidence. Checkout was kept minimal and trust-forward — clear shipment splits, discount visibility, and a single Proceed CTA — so nothing interrupted the momentum built by the product story.

5. Reliance Jewels: Designing for Extreme Trust

Domain: Fine Jewellery | Challenge: High Average Order Value (AOV) conversions | Product Link: Website

Selling a ₹2,00,000 diamond necklace online requires an entirely different UX psychology than selling a ₹500 t-shirt.

Immersive Transparency: Designed high-fidelity product interfaces featuring micro-zoom capabilities and granular price breakdowns (explicitly separating metal weight, stone value, and making charges) to establish immediate buyer trust.

High-Trust Checkout: Engineered an ultra-secure, multi-step checkout flow specifically structured to alleviate purchase anxiety and drive conversions for premium, high Average Order Value (AOV) transactions.

6. JioGames Store: Digital Goods Commerce

Domain: Virtual E-Commerce | Challenge: Architecting high-trust, instant-delivery procurement for digital assets | Product Link: Website

Unlike traditional physical e-commerce, selling digital gaming vouchers, wallet codes (Steam, Xbox, PlayStation), and in-game currency requires a UX optimised for absolute speed, zero fulfilment latency, and immense user trust.

High-Density Discovery: Designed a gamer-centric storefront optimised for navigating complex virtual inventories (platform gift cards, in-game currency, and micro-transactions) with zero cognitive friction.

Instant-Fulfilment Checkout: Engineered a specialised, high-trust checkout flow exclusive to digital goods. It prioritises instant code delivery and transparent redemption UX to bridge the gap between payment and immediate gameplay.

7. JioTV: Interactive T-Commerce & Shoppable Media

Domain: Shoppable Media | Challenge: Merging live entertainment with frictionless e-commerce without disrupting viewership.

As media and commerce rapidly converge within the Reliance ecosystem, the UX challenge shifted toward monetising massive viewership (like Bigg Boss or live sports) directly through the screen.

Shoppable Media Extension: Architected a commerce engine that directly links merchant product catalogs to live JioTV broadcasts, allowing brands to monetise massive viewership without disrupting the stream.

Generative Campaign Builder: Designed an AI tool for marketers to instantly generate interactive T-Commerce layouts (syncing live video with dynamic product cards and QR codes), turning passive viewers into instant buyers.

The Takeaway

Working across the Jio ecosystem taught me the true meaning of Design Versatility. Whether I am optimising a barcode scanner for a teenager in a fashion store, or designing a high-trust checkout for a luxury jewellery buyer, the core principle remains the same:

Deeply understand the user's immediate context, and remove every ounce of friction between them and their goal.
